Studio

About Architecture is an interdisciplinary Tbilisi-based studio practicing within the territories of architecture. Its collaborative model operates across the domains of design, research and education.

The studio observes the sociocultural effects of architecture and embraces entangled multiplicity of the profession as well as its engagements with other actors. AA critically investigates architecture and its fundamental genesis to redefine architecture’s participation in the challenges and evolutions that shape contemporary coexistence.

We see architecture as a complex entity that unfolds its potential agencies in social, political, technological or environmental levels. Exploring these forms is a central aspect of our work.

Story

About Architecture was founded by Vano Ksnelashvili in 2017, between Vilnius and Tbilisi. Recently, the studio has been working on the collaborative project KILD, which has received international awards in various competitions such as Yangjaegogae Eco Bridge (Seoul, 2017), Nemunas Pedestrian and Cyclist Bridge (Kaunas, 2018) and Uzvingio Island Bridge (Vilnius, 2019).

Before starting his own practice, Vano worked as a project architect at a London-based architecture company, Architects of Invention (2010–2017). Many projects over those years won awards and have been built, such as Lazika Municipality, Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office, Pharmaceutical HQ and Tatlin Apartments in Moscow.

In 2018, Vano was one of four invited partners at Tbilisi Architecture Biennial, where the studio built and presented one of the main pavilions, Forms of Living. In that same year, he became an independent expert at EU Mies Award – Fundació Mies van der Rohe

As of 2020, he is also a tutor at the Visual Arts, Architecture & Design School VA|A|DS, where he is currently co-leading a design studio titled re–city. Together with students they research contextual specificities and characterise ongoing transformations of Tbilisi.
