Studio

About Architecture is an interdisciplinary studio practicing within the territories of architecture, founded in 2018 by Vano (Ivane) Ksnelashvili in Tbilisi. Its collaborative model operates across the domains of design, research, and education.

The studio observes the sociocultural effects of architecture and embraces the entangled multiplicity of the profession, as well as its engagements with other actors. About Architecture critically investigates architecture and its fundamental genesis to redefine the discipline’s participation in the challenges and evolutions that shape contemporary coexistence.

We see architecture as a complex entity that unfolds its potential agencies on social, political, technological, and environmental levels. Exploring these forms is a central aspect of our work. Since 2022, the studio has been led by partners Vano Ksnelashvili and Nikoloz Maisuradze — architects, researchers, and educators operating between Tbilisi and Copenhagen.

Vano Ksnelashvili (1987)

Vano received an MA in Architecture and Urban Design in Vilnius in 2010. Before starting his own practice, Vano worked as a project architect at a London-based architecture company, Architects of Invention, from 2010 to 2017. Many projects from those years won awards and have been built, such as the Lazika Municipality, the Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office, the Pharmaceutical HQ, and the Tatlin Apartments in Moscow.

In 2018, Vano was one of four invited partners at the Tbilisi Architecture Biennial, where the studio built and presented one of the main pavilions, Forms of Living. In the same year, he became an independent expert at the EU Mies Award – Fundació Mies van der Rohe.

As of 2020, he is also a tutor at the Visual Arts, Architecture & Design School (VA|A|DS), where he is currently co-leading a design studio titled re–city. Together with students, they research contextual specificities and characterize ongoing transformations of Tbilisi. In 2024, re-city became a LINA fellow, participating in a series of activities taking place all over Europe throughout the year.
